The organizers behind a petition to force a recall election of St. Tammany Coroner Dr. Christopher Tape have less than a month until the deadline.
"We're a little behind," said organizer Noble-Bates Young. "We are sitting on about 20,000 signatures, which means we've got about 15,000 more to go."
Young says they are targeting high-volume events over the next few weeks.
"We have a lot of things planned: we're going to be at the fair, and we're trying to get into the tailgating spots of some high school football games," said Young.
Young says they are also hoping they'll get more signed petitions returned to them from a mass-mailing they did.
She said a lot of people seemed to move on after initial outrage over revelations that Tape once faced sex crime charges, and his decision to eliminate the Sexual Assault Nurse Examiner program, but once the recall campaign reminds them, they give them their signatures.
