St. Tammany firefighters battle a wildfire north of Slidell

Firefighters in St. Tammany Parish are fighting a growing forest fire north of Slidell.

St. Tammany Fire Protection District No. 11 reports that the fire expands several acres of wooded area on W. Powerline Road near Pearl River. The fire started Friday evening and firefighters have been battling the fire for several hours.

While the parish is not under a burn ban, it is under a Red Flag Warning, which indicates conditions are favorable for wildfires.

“A forestry bulldozer is on the scene to help keep it from spreading. We have received multiple 9-1-1 calls in the Ponderosa regarding the smoke blowing in that direction but no homes are in danger that we are aware of at this time,” said the fire department.
