A St. Tammany Parish Sheriff's Office correctional officer has been fired after the sheriff says the jailer struck an inmate.
"Jamyranesha Williams, 24, was terminated after admitting Thursday (Sept. 17) night to a supervisor that she hit an inmate who had been taunting her," the sheriff's office said in a statement.
In addition to being fired, Williams was also issued a summons for simple battery.
"Our employees are expected to conduct themselves professionally at all times, regardless of the circumstances," said Sheriff Bret Ibert. "When someone fails to meet those standards, we will address it immediately and hold them accountable."
