Now that there is a vacancy in the St. Tammany Parish sheriff's office, who might run to fill the position? One law enforcement veteran told WWL First News that he would give it some serious thought.



Former New Orleans Police Superintendent Ronal Serpas, a Covington resident, told WWL's Tommy Tucker the notion has at least crossed his mind.

"Yeah, I would probably give it some thought," Serpas said when asked about it. "It would certainly be a consideration I would think through."

The former chief, who was also Nashville's police chief and, before that, the head of Washington State Police, said he likes the community engagement the job requires.

"You've got to be able to deal with that, which is something I really miss and enjoyed," he said.
