After only a year in office, House Representative Charles Henry from Jefferson Parish abruptly resigns from office.
According to the Associated Press, The House of Representatives clerk’s office confirmed Tuesday that Republican Representative submitted his resignation to the House speaker on Monday.
In a statement, Henry cited his son's birth and the pandemic as reasons for his decision.
Henry says he had been thinking about resigning for months, “Like so many Americans, I’ve had to shift priorities,” he said according to the Associate Press.
Henry formerly served as chief of staff to U.S. Rep. Steve Scalise before winning the state House position in 2019.
