New Orleans firefighters had to put out a fire aboard the Steamboat Natchez Tuesday night.
The Natchez was not at its usual berth off the wharf at Jax Brewery, instead, it was docked in the industrial canal.
The New Orleans Fire Department says arrived on the scene at about 8:10 p.m. and found heavy smoke billowing from the Steamboat Natchez. Dockworkers told firefighters that workers were “torching switch gear panels” in the steamboat’s engine room prior to the fire starting.
NOFD says they aggressively attacked the fire and kept it confined to the paddelwheeler's engine room. No one was injured in the fire.
