The Ponchatoula Strawberry Festival is in full gear! So what if there's a chance of rain. Ponchatoula is big!
Organizers say, "Ponchatoula Strawberry Festival is the second largest festival in Louisiana behind Mardi Gras."
The celebration stretches for miles and includes lots of food, drink, music and activities.
From strawberry daiquiris and strawberry wine to strawberries and creme, strawberry shortcake, chocolate covered strawberries, strawberry beignets and big old fresh berries; there are plenty of strawberry selections to eat and drink... and even a strawberry eating contest.
Additionally, you can find boiled crawfish, seafood baked potatoes, smoked turkey legs, pastalaya, tacos, Frito pie, catfish, dirty rice, charbroiled oysters, shrimp, PoBoys, roasted corn, crawfish pies, red Beans & rice, boudin, crawfish etouffee, turkey necks, funnel cakes and much more.
There are also rides, a parade, crafts and contests.
This is the 51st Ponchatoula Strawberry Festival.
The inaugural festival was held in April of 1972.
Louisiana has nearly 400 acres of strawberries producing 850,000 flats per year, valued at $14 million.
