Another murder Sunday in New Orleans continues a trend of violent crime in the city at levels not seen in more than 15 years.

New Orleans Police are investigating the Sunday homicide that left a 24-year-old man dead.

It happened shortly after 6:00pm at the intersection of Gravier and South Roman Streets.

Investigators say officers responded to a call of a shooting.

"Upon their arrival, officers located the victim suffering from multiple gunshot wounds to his body. Emergency Medical Technicians pronounced the man dead on scene," according to a news release.

The Metro Crime Commission says murder is up nearly 50 percent this year over last year and almost 150 percent higher than in 2019.

The city recently surpassed 100 murders for the year, putting New Orleans on track for more murders than any time since Hurricane Katrina in 2005.
