Louisiana is known for its laissez-faire attitude, but when it comes to sports, the state's residents' attitude is anything but lackadaisical. That's according to a new survey which says Louisiana residents are among the most-stressed sports fans in the United States.
According to the survey conducted by TheGruelingTruth.com, Louisiana residents reported an average stress level of 7 out of 10. That mark ties Louisiana for second place with Utah and West Virginia in the stressed-out sports fan poll. Idaho, with a sports fan stress level of 7.5, took top honors in the survey.
That poll, which surveyed 1,249 sports fans, found that nearly a third (32 percent) of sports fans shout, cheer, and/or yell at their televisions to manage their stress while watching a "crucial sports game." Almost another third (29 percent) said they try to stay calm. Six percent said they engage in superstitions in hopes of helping their favorite teams win.
Nearly a quarter of the polled fans said they are more stressed when they watch games along. Thirty-one percent said they're more stressed when watching with family or friends. Nearly half--45 percent--said they're stressed out no matter if they're alone or watching the game with someone else.
The survey found that baseball fans are the most stressed fans in sports, followed by ice hockey fans and basketball buffs.
The sports fans surveyed said only two activities are more stressful than watching sports: public speaking and taking an exam.
