A woman is facing an attempted second-degree murder charge in connection with the early Saturday morning shooting on Bourbon Street.
According to a New Orleans Police Department spokesperson, Shawnnika Smith, 30, pulled a gun and shot a man several times in the chest on Bourbon near the corner of Toulouse Street. That victim remains in critical condition with leg wounds. Two other people were struck by bullets in the leg. Authorities have not disclosed their conditions.
The spokesperson did not say what led to the shooting.
According to the spokesperson, officers arrested Smith on Saturday night. Smith allegedly had a nine-millimeter pistol in her possession when officers found her.
In addition to the attempted murder charge, Smith is facing two counts of aggravated second-degree battery, aggravated assault with a firearm, and illegal discharge of a firearm. She remains in the Orleans Parish Prison with no bond set.
