Police in New Orleans say they have identified the suspect involved in a fatal hit-and-run that killed Jackson Square artist Sher Stewart.
Stewart, 74, was riding her bike home when she was struck and killed by 57-year-old Anderson Hawkins near St. Claude Avenue and Pauger Street on July 16 according to the New Orleans Police Department.
Local Jackson Squarer artists remember Stewart fondly and say she will be remembered for her warm personality and the French Quarter art she loved to create.
Philip James another Jackson Square tells WWLTV that he has one message for the driver.
“You took a life. It was not an insignificant occurrence. Do what's right,” said James.
An organization that memorializes cyclists killed while riding their bike plans to place a ‘Ghost Bike’ at the corner where Stewart was killed.
Police are actively searching for Hawkins.
