The Orleans Parish Sheriff's Office is seeking a domestic abuse battery and child endangerment suspect who was released before prison officials could attach a court-mandated ankle monitor.
Lewis Stokes posted bond Wednesday evening and was released shortly before midnight.
"OPSO staff prematurely released Stokes without the ankle monitor as mandated by court order," reads a statement from Casey McGee, the OPSO's Chief Communications Officer. "The staff on duty at the time, received a printout of the information recorded in the Docket Master but neglected to address the bail condition and contact the monitoring agency before his release."
The sheriff's office says Jefferson Parish Sheriff's Office is assisting them in their search for Stokes, and is asking Stokes to please turn himself in so he can be fitted for an ankle monitor, per the court's order.
"(Orleans Justice Center) leadership have since met to discuss how the error occurred and take corrective action to prevent future errors with releases including updating internal paperwork to address ankle monitoring and providing additional training to staff processing releases," said McGee. "The staff member involved in the incident has been formally disciplined for their negligence as it relates to this matter."
