Jefferson Parish Sheriff Joseph Lopinto reports a man crashed his pickup truck into a sedan Sunday evening, killing the other driver and severely hurting a child.
"The Jefferson Parish Sheriff’s Office is investigating a fatal crash that occurred in Marrero," Captain Jason Rivarde said in a news release. "Just after 7:30 pm, deputies were dispatched to the intersection of Ames Blvd. and Trinity Dr. in reference to the crash."
He says the initial investigation indicates that the driver of the pickup truck was traveling south on Ames Blvd. when it crossed the center of the roadway and struck the small sedan head on.
"The driver of the sedan was pronounced dead on the scene, and two additional occupants were transported to local hospitals for treatment. One of the two, an 8-year-old female, is in critical condition with severe injuries."
Rivarde says the pickup driver was also transported for treatment.
"Impairment is suspected on his part, and charges will likely be filed upon his release from the hospital."
