Suspects in St. Roch shooting, stunt driving show wanted

St. Roch Shooting Suspects
New Orleans Police Department

New Orleans police are searching for several suspects who, according to investigators, were involved in a weekend shooting in St. Roch.

According to an NOPD spokesperson, that shooting happened just before 2 a.m. Sunday at the intersection of St. Claude and St. Roch Avenues.

Police say the shooting stemmed from what police say was a "reckless driving incident." The owner of a nearby business told our partners at WWL-TV that surveillance video showed a crowd watching a spinout show. During the stunt performance, one of the drivers lost control of his car and hit a bystander. According to the business owner, the driver of the car involved in the crash then speeds away on St. Roch Avenue. That's when, the business owner says, around 20 gunshots were fired. Those gunshots, according to authorities, were fired by multiple people.

Police say one person was wounded by those gunshots. That person went to the hospital via private car. Police did not say how many people were injured by the stunt driver.

Police later found the car involved in the crash and shooting, a red Chevrolet Corvette, three blocks away at the intersection of Urquhart and Music Streets. That car, investigators say, was reported stolen from Houston last Thursday. Officers say by the time they found it, the car had been wrecked and abandoned.
