
A suspect in a fatal shooting in New Orleans East barricades himself inside an apartment while police deploy a SWAT team to get the man out.
The fatal shooting happened overnight in the 5700 block of Read Boulevard.
An NOPD report says, “At around 9:52 p.m., Seventh District officers responded to a call of aggravated battery by shooting at the location. Upon arrival, officers discovered a male victim suffering with a gunshot wound(s). The victim died at the scene. The initial investigation has revealed that the victim was exiting Interstate 10-E in his vehicle onto Read Blvd when he was hit by the suspect’s car who was traveling north on Read Blvd. Both drivers exited their vehicles and got into an argument before the suspect produced a gun and shot the victim. Afterward, the suspect ran away from the scene.”
Police say that is when the suspect barricaded himself inside an apartment in the 10500 block of Curran Boulevard. A SWAT team was called in shortly after 1:00 a.m. and the suspect was apprehended at around 3:10 a.m.
No one was hurt in the stand off with the SWAT officers. Authorities have not yet released the name of the suspected shooter.
