For the second time this week, New Orleans Sewerage and Water Board officials are responding to a Uptown water main break.

According to NOLAReady, this latest water main break was reported near the the intersection of Audubon and Willow Streets near the Tulane University campus.

Aimee McCarron represents the area on the New Orleans City Council. She was at the scene and said water breached some cars and homes. According to McCarron, this is the third water main break in her district in the last two months. It's also the second water main break in the last week. On Monday, a water main break at the corner of Panola and South Carrollton left local roads flooded and resulted in a boil water advisory for most of the city.

McCarron also said she and other nearby residents knew that this break was going to happen because water had been leaking from the ground in that area for more than a month. McCarron said she and those other residents reported the leak to the Sewarage and Water Board, but officials did nothing to fix it.

"We were told it's draining right now and there were some other issues further down the line that they were trying to fix first, which is a similar thing that happened with Panola Street earlier this week," McCarron said. "They were trying to fix a line and they had to pause to come over and fix that one."

According to McCarron, Sewerage and Water Board crews were able to slow the flow of the water from the burst 30-inch main, but they haven't been able to stop the leak.

"Sewerage and Water Board also told us while we were out here that the water is going to be flowing for a few days until they can get it fixed," McCarron said.

The good news, McCarron said, is that the SWB has been able to maintain water pressure in the area despite the main break. This, she says, will likely

This is a developing story.
