St. Tammany Parish deputy sheriffs arrested a 13-year-old student at Clearwood Junior High School in Slidell on charges of making threats directed at the school.
School administrators called the sheriff's office Saturday, alerting them to online social media posts of the student holding a firearm and making the threats, authorities said.
Deputies booked the student the same day into the Florida Parishes Juvenile Detention Center on a charge of terrorizing.
"The safety of our children is of the utmost importance," said St. Tammany Parish Sheriff Randy Smith. "We will continue to take threats like this very seriously and will work with our school administrators to investigate any and all threats made toward our schools or to the students and faculty who attend them. Parents, please talk to your children and explain the seriousness of making threats like this, even in a joking manner."
