Tangipahoa deputy fired for misuse of force

A Tangipahoa Parish sheriff's deputy has been fired amid a use of force investigation that the sheriff says could lead to further actions.

According to Sheriff Gerald Sticker, Deputy Randall Kelly went to a home on Monday to investigate a threat complaint. Sticker says after Kelley entered the house, he tackled a man and placed that man under arrest for resisting.

Security cameras inside the house captured the incident, and the homeowner later posted those videos to social media.

Sticker says his office launched an investigation after they were made aware of the incident. Kelley was put on administrative leave pending the investigation and was fired Tuesday afternoon. That deputy, Sticker says, worked for the Tangipahoa Parish Sheriff's Office from 2020 to 2022 before rejoining the department in February of this year.

“As I have said before, this agency deserves better and this community deserves better," Sticker said in a statement. "The actions of this one deputy are not reflective of the standards I have established nor the genuine day-in-and-day-out positive encounters our men and women have with our residents.”

The man who was arrested has since been released from jail. Sticker says efforts are under way to drop the charges against him.
