The 4th of July ended with gunfire, a 14-year-old girl shot and a SWAT standoff in St. Bernard Parish.
"Deputies responded to a call for service in reference to a shooting in the 2300 block of Torres Drive in St. Bernard community," according to a news release. "When deputies arrived on the scene they came into contact with a 14-year-old female juvenile victim suffering from a graze wound to the head."
Officials say the victim was transported to the hospital for injuries describes as non-life threatening.
"The suspect, identified as Justin Pritchard, 34, has barricaded himself inside his home in the 2300 block of Torres Drive and is refusing to come out or communicate with deputies."
He was apprehended after a standoff.
The sheriff's office says Criminal Investigations Bureau detectives recovered several weapons from the scene, including semi-automatic rifles, shotguns, and a .40 caliber handgun Pritchard had on him when he exited his home.
"According to family members, Pritchard suffers from mental health issues."
