The Terrebonne Parish Sheriff's Office is remembering retired K9 officer Kane, who died after battling an unspecified illness.
The police dog was donated to the sheriff's office in 2016 by the K9 Officer Nonprofit Organization. The pup was bred from a line of police dogs that have served in numerous communities.
Kane served Terrebonne Parish for two and a half years with his handler, Deputy Dillon Condetti. Together, they made numerous arrests. Kane even protected his handler on multiple occasions, and in 2020, Kane was honored as K9 of the Year.
After his retirement, Kane moved in with Deputy Condetti, his son, and his own canine prodigy, also a K9 officer, known as Jaguar.
"K9 Kane had all of the attributes that we seek in Law Enforcement Officers as a whole - canine or human," said Sheriff Tim Soignet. "He possessed intelligence, immense courage, and absolute dedication to protecting the community, and you would be hard-pressed to find a more loyal partner to his handler."
"R.I.P. K9 Kane," said Soignet. "We have the watch from here."
