Terrebonne Parish investigators say a Thanksgiving weekend house fire in Schriever was started by an arsonist. Sheriff’s deputies say they’ve caught that arsonist.
Sheriff Tim Soignet says Benjamin Acosta is facing an aggravated arson charge in connection with that fire, which happened just after midnight Sunday morning.
According to Soigner, Acosta, 52, set fire to a house on Broadway Avenue while people were inside the home. Soigner says Acosta ignited the blaze after he was kicked out of the house after an incident that happened earlier in the night. A resident inside the home put out the fire.
Nobody was injured.
Investigators arrested Acosta Monday after getting a warrant for his arrest. As of Monday night, he remains in jail. His bond is set at $1 million.
