Louisiana State Police identify a Texas woman who died in a rollover crash on I-12 early Thursday morning.
State Police investigators say it happened shortly before 1:30 a.m. on I-12 near the I-10 interchange in Slidell.
The crash claimed the life of 33-year-old Megan Smith of Houston Texas.
An LSP report says, “The initial investigation revealed that Smith was traveling eastbound on I-12 approaching the intersection of I-10 in a 2015 Nissan Altima. For reasons still under investigation, the Altima traveled off the left side of the roadway and down an embankment. The Altima then struck and rolled over the I-10 westbound guardrail before coming to rest in the I-10 westbound travel lanes.”
Authorities say Smith was wearing her seatbelt at the time of the crash.
She was pronounced dead on the scene by the St. Tammany Parish Coroner’s Office. Authorities say they do not suspect Smith was impaired, however, as part of the ongoing investigation; a blood sample was taken from Smith for analysis. The cause of the crash remains under investigation.
