Many of the people I talked to on Thursday were heading home to watch a debate between the two men running for President of the United States.
More, it seemed, were heading home to watch Thursday Night Football.
And while a lot watched Trump and Biden joust each other, more were likely over watching a tight game where Philly eked out a one point win over the New York Giants.
Still a lot of the Saints faithful I spoke to surprised to learn there would be fans in the Superdome.
Let alone three thousand of them.
“Oh really, they’re gonna let people in the Dome, now?” said one fan a little taken aback. “That’s good news, that’s good, that’s good. It’s about time, they need to start opening it up again.”
Another fan was pleased about how it was going to lift the spirits of New Orleans: “It’s really good to see they’re going to let fans back in the dome, it’ll do a lot for the morale of the city.”
Still, one fan was almost horrified with I told him they were going to let people in the Dome: “Inside the Dome?” he asked befuddled. “They’re taking risks for themselves,” he warned. “I mean, but the city needs the money. But, I’m telling ya right now, everybody needs to wear a mask!”
Still a survey of fans in the French Quarter brought out Nick, a light hearted, if not sarcastic sort, who used the opportunity to rib Mayor LaToya Cantrell good naturedly: “Well that’s a start,” Nick said when I told him about the fans. Then he launched into his routine: “Yeah I’m wondering if she’s going to go straight to [Phase] 3-point-5, or if she’s going to go to 3-point-4, first. That’s what I’m anxiously awaiting, cause I know 3-point-3 has been going so well for us so far.”
If you weren’t among the lucky 3,000, don’t fret. WWL is here to give you all the action of the game starting with plenty of pregame prognostications followed by the kickoff at noon.
