It's the first big weekend for parades and the story of the week has been the predicted weather conditions for Saturday.
In response, Krewes and the city have restructured the parade calendar for safety. But, how practical is the new schedule?
Mardi Gras Guide’s Arthur Hardy says there was only one decision to make ahead of the precited severe storms.
“Some very wise decisions have been made. It’s a matter of safety.”
With that being said, it may not mean that every float and parade goer will remain dry.
"Getting a parade on and off the route in an hour is going to be tough. Especially with five others to follow. We'll probably see a little rain."
Making the right call isn’t always easy, but it’s always right.
Especially with some believing the city may be going soft and more die-hard parade goers want the good times to roll, at the same time, no matter the conditions.
“Sometimes you have to protect people from themselves.”
Though there have been issues in recent history (pandemics, weather, and logistics), the spirit of Mardi Gras remains and, to Arthur Hardy, it never gets old.
“I catch a few [parades] and I enjoy them. It brings out the kid in you and you can’t help yourself, at least I can’t!’”
Krewe of Oshun will kick off the uptown route parades this evening at 6pm.
