N.O. spokesperson: The way to Mardi Gras is through proof of vaccination

New Orleans City Hall today stressed the importance of continuing to make sure everyone going out to eat, drink or attend events proves they are vaccinated against COVID or have a negative test.

At a weekly press conference, mayoral spokesperson Beau Tidwell says the way to make sure the city gets to Carnival this year is to keep checking for vaccines.

“To our businesses and business owners, we encourage you to stay vigilant on that,” said Tidwell. “The requirement for proof of vaccination to go into a restaurant or a bar will remain in effect through Mardi Gras.”

Tidwell stressed that the city does not plan to bust down doors on businesses not complying but he did urge people to report them to the city through the 311 service.

Tidwell says the administration is encouraged by the lower COVID numbers and wants to keep it that way by continuing businesses to require proof of vaccination to enter.
