Thibodaux Police say a loose dog attacked an officer Christmas morning, and the officer had to respond with deadly force.
According to police, a patrol officer came across several individuals in the 600 block of N. Canal Blvd. around 10:30 a.m. They were trying to corral a dog on the loose that was darting in and out of traffic.
"During this time, the dog attacked the officer, biting him on the backside of his body," according to a police statement.
When the dog began running toward other people, police say the officer was forced to shoot the dog, killing it.
The officer was taken to an area hospital for treatment.
The incident remains under investigation.
