A local business says someone stole dozens of king cakes and winter coat from a vehicle early this morning.
"King Cake Drive-Thru had a first - we had 100 king cakes stolen from our delivery van." the company posted on social media.
The post says the thief or thieves were also apparently cold.
"Mike's new winter jacket... was stolen too."
There was apparently some damage to the van as well.
"Please bare with us as we get the van repaired."
They planned to get more king cakes and still operate a pop up again today selling the sweet treats on Metairie Road.
The business operates temporary sales sites across the area selling king cakes from local bakeries.
According to King Cake Drive-Thru co-owner Mike Grades, the truck was parked outside his home near the corner of Ursulines Avenue and Derbigny Street when the break-in happened. Grades says it happened between midnight, when he and his fiancée returned home from Monday's work, and 3 a.m., when he and fiancée were preparing to start the new day.
"(I) went out there and a window was smashed in," Grades said. "About 100 cakes were missing from the back."
Grades says his neighbors may have surveillance footage of the break-in, but he's not sure their cameras were able to get any good video of the crime. Despite it all, Grades and his van are back on the road selling king cakes.
"(I) got the glass cleaned up and got everything situated," Grades said. "I had to go start making my pickups for the events that I'm currently on the road to right now."
Despite the burglary, the owners seemed to remain in good spirits.
"My fiancé and I love it here (it's home) and it's a special place," the King Cake Drive Thru's Instagram post read.
