Louisiana voters overwhelmingly approved three constitutional on Saturday’s ballot.
With more than half of the state’s precincts reporting their results, all three amendments received more than 70 percent of the vote.
The first amendment requires anyone who registers to vote in Louisiana to be a citizen of the United States. Previously, the state constitution required a voter to be a citizen of Louisiana. With more than half of precincts reporting, 75 percent of voters said “yes” to that amendment.
The other two amendments give the state senate confirmation powers for some gubernatorial appointments. Amendment 2 requires senators to confirm the governor’s appointments to the Louisiana Civil Service Commission. Amendment 3 requires Senate confirmation of the governor’s appointments to the State Police Commission. Those amendments received 71 percent and 72 percent of the vote, respectively.
