You can own a piece of New Orleans music history if the price is right.
An unused ticket from the Beatles’ concert in City Park Stadium (known today as Tad Gormley Stadium) is up for action on the Heritage Auctions website. During that concert on September 16, 1964, the Fab Four played before a capacity crowd of 12,000 screaming fans. Before the show, Mayor Vic Schiro presented the band with a key to the city and declared Beatles Day in New Orleans. Just prior to taking the stage, the group got to meet one of their idols, Fats Domino.
The concert was the only one the Beatles ever held in the Crescent city.
The face value of the ticket up for auction is $5. However, if you want to own that piece of local music history now, you’ll have to pay significantly more than that. As of 5 p.m. on Sunday, July 30, the highest bid on the ticket is $2,300.
