Tidwell: N.O. could soon loosen restrictions but not completely

Louisiana Governor John Bel Edwards is expected to announce updated guidelines for COVID restrictions in the state. His current proclamation of the mask mandate and Phase Three restrictions expires tomorrow.

Meanwhile, the City of New Orleans is reviewing its currently more restrictive rules. New Orleans spokesperson Beau Tidwell says the city’s latest COVID numbers are very encouraging.

“We are able to say there were no new deaths in at least a week,” said Tidwell. “We are averaging around 17 new cases a day and the positivity rate is about 0.8%.”

Tidwell says those numbers could soon loosen some city COVID restrictions.

“You may see additional easement to the guidelines later this week, but that will not be in complete lockstep with what is happening on the state level,” said Tidwell.
