Slidell police say a train applied its emergency brake to avoid running over two children in its path.
"Two children were on the tracks and were narrowly missed by an oncoming train," said police. "The train applied its emergency brakes, causing some of the rail cars to detach from the locomotive."
The incident happened near Front St., along Slidell's parade route.
"Please let this serve as a reminder to use extreme caution along the railroad tracks, especially during parades," said police.
