NOFD says flames erupted in the 1600 block of Basin Street in Treme early Sunday morning.
"The first NOFD company arrived on the scene of a two-story brick building with heavy smoke," Spokesman Gregory Davis said.
He says they faced challenges getting inside.
"The company had to make a forceable entry to this boarded up area as the fire intensified."
Davis says they were able to contain the blaze before it spread to the rest of the building and nearby structures.
The building is connected to a bar that faces Claiborne Avenue.
It took 45 fire personnel to get the blaze under control. There were no reported injuries.
The cause is under investigation.
