Jury selection in the carjacking and murder trial of three teenage defendants accused of killing 73-year-old Linda Frickey will not begin today, after the Louisiana Supreme Court ordered a delay.
WWL-TV reports the Louisiana Fourth Circuit Court of Appeal is considering whether certain forensic evidence can be considered. The trial judge blocked the evidence in question, and both sides appealed.
Frickey was killed a little over a year ago when four people tried to remove her from her car and steal it, but Frickey's arm became tangled up in a seat belt.
She was dragged until her arm was torn from her body. Frickey died at the scene.
Police arrested four teenagers, all juveniles. New Orleans District Attorney Jason Williams indicted them as adults.
John Honore, Briniyah Baker, and Mar'Qel Curtis were set to go on trial starting today. A fourth defendant, Lenyra Tehophile, has been ruled mentally incompetent. Theophile is undergoing court-ordered psychiatric treatment until she is deemed fit to stand trial.
