Gunfire erupted at a Central City second line Sunday.

"This evening’s violence at a second line is a senseless and heartbreaking tragedy. A young woman lost her life, and two others were injured during what should have been a joyful community tradition,"  NOPD Director of Communications Reese Harper said in a statement. "Our city deserves better."

It happened shortly after 5:00pm in the 2700 block of Magnolia Street.

"Officers responded to the location to investigate a report of shots fired. Upon arrival, officers located an unresponsive adult female subject who had sustained at least one gunshot wound. NOEMS pronounced the victim, a 26-year-old female, deceased at the scene," according to NOPD Public Relations Specialist Karen Boudrie.

Cops say a 16-year-old male and a 29-year-old male sustained "non-life-threatening injuries."

Police wants anyone who was at the second line, particularly if they captured video or pictures, to help in the investigation.

"The NOPD is asking that any and all persons who took video at or near the scene of today's shooting incidents to please send those videos to Crimestoppers. The public's assistance in this investigation is vital to bringing the perpetrators to justice. Videos can be uploaded at: www.crimestoppersgno.org."

Harper added, "Our hearts are with the family who is grieving tonight and with everyone shaken by this incident. Second lines are part of who we are as a city. No one should ever fear violence in these moments. We will stand with this family, with this community, and we will not let this go unanswered."
