The New Orleans Office of Inspector General says a tow truck driver for the city faces criminal charges after a joint investigation with Louisiana State Police Troop NOLA.
Troopers booked the driver last week on charges of malfeasance in office, obstruction of justice, and injuring public records.
"The investigation revealed that [the] tow truck driver was bypassing the official tow process by accepting cash payments in exchange for not towing vehicles," according to a statement from the OIG.
The inspector general's investigation remains active and is seeking information from anyone who may have been asked to pay cash in exchange for the release of their vehicle.
Anyone with information is asked to report it by calling the OIG hotline at (504) 681-3247, online at NolaOIG.gov/report, or send an email to hotline@nolaoig.gov.
