Federal forecasters say the Gulf Coast could see flooding rains thanks to a system along the Texas shore.

"On the forecast track, the low pressure area should move northeastward along the Texas coast today and then move inland over southwestern Louisiana by tonight," the National Hurricane Center advised. "Some strengthening is forecast, and the disturbance could become a tropical storm today."

The biggest threat is flooding rain.

"Potential Tropical Cyclone One is expected to produce rainfall totals of 5 to 10 inches, with isolated higher totals near 20 inches, through early Friday."

NOAA says the highest risk is from western portions of Louisiana through the New Orleans region and on into Mississippi and Alabama.

"This could generate dangerous to life-threatening flash flooding."

The city of New Orleans is allowing parking on neutral grounds until 7:00am Friday.

Forecasters say a couple of tornadoes are possible through Thursday from the Upper Texas Coast into southern Louisiana, Mississippi, Alabama, and the western Florida Panhandle.
