Louisiana Governor Jeff Landry has issued a state of emergency in six parishes in response to the severe weather caused by Tropical Storm Arthur.
That includes Avoyelles, Lafourche, Pointe Coupee, St. Landry, St. Tammany and Terrebonne.
There were tornadoes or straight line winds causing damage from the Bayou Parishes to the River Parishes, and from the Westbank to the Northshore.
Rain flooded hundreds of homes, businesses and cars from Houma to Kenner and Slidell to Pearl River. Rainfall totals topped ten inches in spots around Southeast Louisiana with accumulations in Mississippi closer to 20 inches.
It was even more intense in Central Louisiana.
Arthur’s displaced rain stalled over Avoyelles Parish throughout the day Thursday, dumping just shy of 30 inches of rain.
That triggered evacuations and rescues.
While Arthur made landfall south of Houston, Texas; the impacts were most severe in Louisiana, Mississippi and Alabama.
