Sometime in the next two weeks, Donald Trump is headed to jail.
No, the former President hasn’t been convicted on any of the four distinct batches of indictments now levied at him. In fact, none of those trials have even begun yet.
But as part of the latest indictment, this one on racketeering charges in the state of Georgia over his attempts to overturn the 2020 Presidential election, Trump will not be given the same courtesy he has enjoyed in the previous three sets of allegations.
Rather than being allowed to be booked and processed at a courthouse, the state of Georgia will make Trump report to the Fulton County Jail to go through the mandatory pre-trial paperwork.
“At this point, based on guidance received from the District Attorney’s office and presiding judge, it is expected that all 19 defendants named in the indictment will be booked at the Rice Street Jail,” Fulton County Sheriff’s Office spokesperson Natalie Ammons said in an emailed statement, according to Boston 25 News.
“Keep in mind, defendants can turn themselves in at any time. The jail is open 24/7. Also, due to the unprecedented nature of this case, some circumstances may change with little or no warning,” Ammons continued.
Along with Trump, the list of defendants indicted in the Georgia case also includes Rudy Giuliani, John Eastman, Mark Meadows, Kenneth Cheseboro, Jenna Ellis, Ray Smith, David Shafer, Sidney Powell, Cathy Latham, Jeffrey Clark, Robert Cheeley, Mike Roman, Shawn Still, Stephen Lee, Harrison Floyd, Trevian Kutti, Scott Hall and Misty Hampton.
All 19 defendants have until Friday, August 25, to turn themselves in.
