In an attempt to discourage Tulane and Loyola University students from celebrating Mardi Gras in gatherings, the schools will break tradition and schedule classes on Lundi Gras.
As the Times-Picayune | The New Orleans Advocate reports, the decision came after Tulane suspended six Greek fraternities and sororities for hosting large gatherings off-campus.
"Seeing all the reports of large parties and gatherings this past weekend, we have decided that it is not prudent to schedule a four-day weekend," Loyola Provost Tanuja Singh wrote in a letter to the student body in the university’s student newspaper, The Maroon.
Meanwhile, a spokesperson for Tulane University tells Nola.com that the school is considering extending its campus restrictions, including forbidding visitors at student dorms and ask students to cancel any social gatherings. The school is expected to make a decision by next week.
