Louisiana State Police say a pair of elderly people died Monday in a crash in Metairie. It happened on Clearview Parkway between Airline Drive and West Metairie Avenue.
"Troopers with Louisiana State Police Troop B began investigating a multi-vehicle crash on LA 3152, near King Street in Jefferson Parish," Trooper Jacob Pucheu said in a news release. "The crash ultimately claimed the lives of 80-year-old Oscar Carter IV and his front-seat passenger, 77-year-old Martha Bradford, both of New Orleans."
The trooper says neither of the victims were wearing a seatbelt when their Infiniti hit a tree in the Clearview neutral ground.
Pucheu says Carter hit another vehicle before hitting the tree.
"For reasons still under investigation, the Infiniti veered into the left lane and struck the right side of the Nissan. Following the initial impact, the Infiniti entered the median and struck a tree, while the Nissan crossed the median into the southbound lanes of LA 3152 and struck a 2020 Buick Encore traveling south."
Carter died on scene. Bradford later died at the hospital.
"All occupants of the Nissan and the Buick, as well as the rear-seat passenger in the Infiniti, were properly restrained, suffered minor injuries, and were transported to a local hospital. Impairment is not suspected; however, routine toxicology samples were collected and submitted for analysis. This crash remains under investigation."
