Two people are dead after two separate crashes in Lafourche Parish.
The first happened just before 4 p.m. Friday on LA 20 near Elmo Lane in Chackbay.
According to state troopers, Joel Matherne veered his car across the center line of the highway and into the path of an oncoming pickup truck, resulting in a head-on collision. Matherne died at the scene. The driver of the pickup truck was taken to a New Orleans hospital with serious injuries.
About an hour later, troopers responded to a crash on LA 654 near LA 308 in Mathews.
Troopers say in that crash, Willie Windham, III, ran his sport utility vehicle off the highway, hitting a tree and flipping the vehicle. Windham was transported to a hospital, where he later died.
Both crashes remain under investigation.
