Two dead in separate Tangipahoa Parish crashes

Two men are dead after two separate crashes that happened along the same highway in Tangipahoa Parish within 20 minutes of each other.

The first crash happened around 11:10 p.m. Saturday on LA 1054 near North River Road just outside of Kentwood.


According to state troopers, Jeremiah Sims, 33, of Hammond, was driving along the highway when his pickup truck ran off the road and hit a tree. Sims, who, troopers say, was not wearing a seatbelt, died at the scene.

The second crash happened around about 24 miles south of the first incident.

Troopers say they got a call around 11:30 p.m. about a crash on LA 1054 near Clements Road near Independence.

According to investigators, Triston Pennington, 22, of Loranger, was driving a compact car when the car ran off the road and hit a cement culvert.

Pennington died at the scene. Troopers say he was not wearing a seat belt.

Toxicology samples were taken at both crash scenes. Results are pending.

Both crashes remain under investigation.
