Two men wounded in downtown hotel shootout, now arrested NOPD says

Two men wounded in a shootout at a Canal Street hotel are arrested as alleged suspects in the shooting.

The shooting happened about 12:16 a.m. on Monday at the Jung Hotel in the 1500 block of Canal Street.


According to the New Orleans Police Department, the pair were among six suspects who allegedly forced their way into the hotel room and opened fire at two other men inside.

Investigators say the pair of suspects later identified as 20-year-old Chris Ross from Slidell and 25-year-old Tiquan Everson from Avondale, where in the group of six men.

The gunfight then spilled out into the hotel hallway. Ross and Everson were wounded in the shootout police say.

Police initially reported the group was attempting to rob a ‘known drug dealer’ as The Times Picayune | New Orleans Advocate reports. One man inside the room was shot in the chest another man also in the room was not harmed.

NOPD officers arrested Ross and Everson in the incident, who were later found at the hospital with gunshot wounds. Police charged them each with one count of attempted second-degree murder.

Investigators also recovered three rifles and illegal drugs at the shooting scene in the hotel room.
