Two women robbed by gunmen in Bayou St. John, one hit by car

New Orleans Police say two women were robbed Monday night near Bayou St. John.

The first was a carjacking just after 8:30pm near the intersection of Moss Street and Grand Route St. John.

"Unknown armed suspect exited suspect vehicle and demanded victim’s vehicle. Victim complied. Suspect fled location in victim’s white 2019 Audi Q5," according to an initial police report.

Just before midnight another woman was robbed at Moss Street and Bell Street.  She chased down the gunmen, and they ran their car into her.

"First suspect asked victim to use her phone. Suspect took phone and fled to second suspect waiting in vehicle. Victim attempted to run after suspects. Suspects hit victim with vehicle and fled."

The report did not detail the extent of the victim's injuries.

This comes amid an increase of 7% in carjackings and 46% increase in armed robbery incidents to date for the year in New Orleans.

The rate of increase is slowing, however.  The Metro Crime Commission says last week, there were 8 reported carjacking incidents and 8 reported armed robberies.  During the same week in 2021, they tallied 16 carjacking incidents and 14 armed robberies.
