Mike Giorlando is the new Athletic Director at UNO as the college makes the transition into the LSU system. He’s overseeing that transition and has an ambitious vision for what LSU New Orleans could become in the years ahead.

"This is a tremendous opportunity for the university. It's all about recruiting and enrollment. We have to get those numbers up and this transition to LSU can only be an asset to us at this point," he emphasized.

The new Privateers Athletic Director says there is already a proud sports tradition at the university he hopes will only be bolstered by officially becoming LSU New Orleans.

"We were national champs in golf. We were ranked #1 in basketball in 1972 and got upset in the playoffs. Our baseball program was long on the map. So, we have a tradition here. Our history and pride are incredibly important. We're going to build on that foundation, not erase it," Giorlando pointed out.

UNO will become LSU New Orleans as of July 1st and the athletics department is confident that returning to the LSU system will be a boon for talent recruitment and retention.
