Same time, same place. Gunfire again broke out on Bourbon Street in the French Quarter early this morning sending five people to area hospitals with non-life threatening injuries.
Late word from New Orleans Police says they have taken a 17-year-old juvenile into custody "for his suspected involvement in this morning's aggravated battery by shooting incident."
The victims of this weekend's shooting include a 42-year man who suffered a gunshot wound to the arm, a 21-year old man shot in the left leg, a 28-year old man shot in the buttocks, and a 30-year old female who suffered a gunshot wound to the right thigh, a fifth victim who was shot in the calf.
Police initially responded to reports of gunfire near the Quartermaster Delicatessen in the 1100 block of Bourbon.
That was later corrected to the 700 block—between St. Peter St.
and Orleans Avenue, where almost exactly a week ago five people were shot in a gunfight between two men.
NOPD detectives were tight lipped about this latest instance of violence.
No victims were named or identified.
Investigators continued to sweep the scene for clues, interviewing witnesses, reviewing surveillance tapes, and talking to bystanders who witnessed the shooting.
It is not known if this morning’s shooting set off the same stampede of people storming into bars and nightclubs to escape injury.
