Ochsner Health and Xavier University, with state and local leaders and the Brees Dream Foundation, today announced a $100 million investment to open 15 community health centers in underserved communities in Louisiana.
Gov. John Bel Edwards says the goal is to move Louisiana from being ranked 49th in overall health to 40th within ten years.
"I’m grateful to Ochsner and Xavier University for coming together to develop a comprehensive strategy to address these pressing issues and the Brees Dream Foundation for supporting this important work," said Edwards today. "Louisiana has consistently been one of the least healthy states in our nation, and we know that COVID-19 is especially dangerous for those who suffer from diabetes, high blood pressure and other chronic illnesses."
Six clinics will be in New Orleans and Jefferson Parish, and one will be on the Northshore.
Other clinics will be placed in Baton Rouge, Shreveport, Monroe, Lafayette, and Lake Charles.
