Its Economic Development Week and the Jefferson Parish Economic Development Commission has a lot to celebrate. Jerry Bologna, Executive Director of the commission, says the parish will soon see its hard work pay off big dividends.

Starting with homegrown brands like Zatarain’s, Jefferson Parish has been able to carve out a place as a major exporter of New Orleans style cuisine.

“Jefferson is established as the food manufacturing center. Everyone wants to import New Orleans culture.”

The buildup of the food and beverage sector in Jefferson Parish has led to federal dollars being awarded for a new incubator.

“We just received a really nice grant from the federal government.”

The award for the project of $2 million will be matched with $2.2 million in local funds and is expected to retain 420 jobs and generate $62.2 million in private investment.

Director Bologna says this will setup a prime hub to foster more opportunities.

“The incubator will be located in Churchill Park on the Westbank and this will allow us to foster more food and beverage companies.”
