An investigation is underway after a fire in a Harvey home over the weekend saw firefighters evacuating the house as it threatened to collapse.

"On Sunday 2/18/2024 at 9:21 AM, Harvey Volunteer Fire Company #2 units responded to a report of a structure fire at 2633 CERRITAS VIA.," the fire department posted.

Crews arrived at the scene to find smoke visible. Then flames began to engulf the house.

"Firefighters attempted to make a aggressive interior attack on the fire only to be forced from the structure as flames were shooting through the roof."

Authorities say moments after all firefighters were evacuated, the roof collapsed.

"At that point firefighters began a defensive attack which consisted of a 75 foot Aerial ladder flowing large volumes of water into the structure and several large diameter hose lines. After about 30 minutes using this method of attack the fire was darkened down enough to try and make entry again."

Officials say they were then, finally able to bring the blaze under control.

"It took about 90 minutes for about 15 firefighters to accomplish this."

The Harvey Volunteer Fire Company says a family of four was displaced.

"No injuries were reported. The cause of the fire remains under investigation at this time."
