Prominent criminal defense attorney and longtime Harahan Mayor Vinny Mosca passed on Wednesday.
The exact cause of death has not been determined, but friends did tell WWL-TV, Mosca was being treated for a sickness and heart disease.
The family says Mosca, 74, was at home surrounded by friends when he passed away.
Mosca had a long political career, serving either as Mayor of Harahan or as a council member spanning a period of 20 years.
He served as Mayor of Harahan from 1995-2002 and again from 2011-2014.
Flags in Harahan will be lowered to half-staff.
Mosca frequently teamed with attorney David Courcelle and Chick Foret (now a Jefferson Parish judge). The trio took on complicated high-profile corruption cases.
Mosca was known for negotiating plea deals for light sentences. Among his clients were Aaron Bennett, a key figure in the bribery case against New Orleans Mayor Ray Nagin. He also represented a client in the Canal Street Madam case.
Mosca is survived by wife, four children and three stepchildren.
